At the location where in future the Oosterweel link will be entrenched, the utility and drainage channels had to be relocated and lowered. This included, among others, 3 major Aquafin water pipelines, the Schijn/Schelde-link and a number of sewage systems.
Soetaert-Soiltech made large, deep launch and reception shafts with an excavation depth of 26 metres using the diaphragm wall technique. In between pump and collection pits, at a depth of 25 metres, tunnels were drilled through which the utility lines were drawn. At this depth, the works could be executed without causing nuisance to the environment. As a result, the future Oosterweel link will have no trouble whatsoever to go underground here.
