R41

A new tunnel for the ring road around Aalst

Soetaert used the diaphragm wall technique for the first time for tunnelling the R41 at the Boudewijnlaan in Aalst. The rest is history.

With this sheet piling technique, we created two earth- and water retaining walls of 700 m long for tunnelling the R41. The benefits of this technique are the large wall depths and the fact that the works can be executed in a vibration-free manner, which enables excavating in an urban environment, close to existing buildings, as was the case here.
